I can't believe this is day 7 of my 12 days of blogmas. I am really proud of myself for sticking to it, especially as I was sick for longer than expected and therefore have not been able to schedule any of these posts in advance.
Tonight's post is just a quick* one. I thought I would bring you a Friday reads with a festive twist, the festive twist being that this is what I will be reading until New Year and these are mostly festively themed.
So let's get started!
First off I am planning to finish off reading Mist born/The Final Empire (audiobook) by Brandon Sanderson tonight. This was a pretty long (26 hours) audiobook and I have been enjoying listening to it nightly and taking my time with it, it feels like I've been on the adventure with them. While this isn't one of my favourite books ever, I have really enjoyed reading it, and it's the first epic fantasy book I have ever finished, obviously thanks to Mr Sanderson's wonderful writing style and brilliant narration from Michael Kramer.
Secondly, I am currently taking my time reading my copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone illustrated edition by J K Rowling and illustrations by Jim Kay. I just reading this a few chapters at a time and taking the time to fully absorb the words and appreciate the beautiful artwork and I'm really glad I haven't raced through it. I plan to read this right through the holiday season, but I'm aiming to finish it off by New Year.
The last item that I am currently reading is Public Library and other stories by Ali Smith. I have only read a few stories so far but I'm really enjoying it, I really like way the stories are set out too with the fiction and non-fiction portions. I'm just planning to pick this up in between books, and have no real plans to finish it this month, but since I'll be reading more of it I thought I'd mention it anyway!
Now on to the week of Christmas!
As of next week my plan is to read Mystery in White by J Jefferson Farjeon. I'm not really into chick lit, so this is going to be my proper Christmassy book of choice, as it's a Christmas Crime Classic (who knew this was a thing?!). I'm going to be busy on Christmas Eve, but I'm hoping to start this on Monday or Tuesday and leave a few chapters or so for Christmas Eve, as that is when the story occurs!
I will probably pick up another audiobook (as that's how I fall asleep at night) but I'm in two minds on whether I will pick up the sequel to The Final Empire or not. If not, I recently bought The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams (read by Stephen Fry) which I've been meaning to read for so long, plus it's relatively short and funny, might be just what I need!
And lastly, if by any chance I find myself with some spare time, I would love to at least get Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman read as part of Jen's readalong. I got the beautiful copy of the His Dark Materials trilogy for my birthday, and I just think it would be a good read for winter.
So there we have it, of course that might completely change and I'll read none of it, or all of it or something completely different! But that's ok too. What are you reading right now? Do you have any books that you re-read specifically at Christmas? Let me know below!
(*clearly I do not have the ability to do "quick" posts...)
