I'm sure everyone is sick of seeing the reviews for this product however I really haven't see many from people with the same skin issues as me and/or with before and after pictures. Also there is a few things I've experienced that I have not noticed others mentioning. Also I really wanted to review this so I'm going to!
I've never particularly had bad skin. However, recently I have been suffering with a chronic illness and due to stress or medication my skin has just turned evil on me! I've always had redness and always preferred fuller coverage foundations but recently I have experienced scaring and awful red sore spots that last for weeks at a time. Definitely not acne, and my skin is not "bumpy" but I need to coverage.
Originally after deciding to change my foundation, I switched to Estee Lauder Double Wear in 1C1 Shell (£21.50). A great shade for me. (on a side note I had a terrible experience with the person who served me in my home town and swore I wouldn't be back). This is a lovely creamy formula and I really hope I can switch back to it soon, however I did not enjoy the heavy (easy to break) glass bottle it came in with no pump. It's very easy to pour out too much product and I also find it quite un-hygienic. Although I think many people may think the container makes it more expensive looking or feeling.
Anyway I digress! I need more coverage and with the amount of coverage the normal Double Wear was offering, it didn't leave many options. At this point I decided to go for Maximum Cover. The woman in the Glasgow Debenhams at the Estee Lauder was an absolute saint and it was a completely different experience to my home town. She didn't have samples on hand but was about to give me head office's contact details when I explained I was desperate! She matched me and advised me that if the colour didn't suit I could bring it back which I wasn't aware of! She matched me with shade 11 Very Light which turns out to actually be a better match to my skin than the 1C1 shell.
Here it is!
Moving on to the actual product. After doing some research I found there wasn't many reviews with a before picture. As much as I hated the thought of it, It was what I felt was missing so I swallowed my pride (however my disgust is hiding in my diverted eyes). Also any that did have before pictures their skin was either proper acne or perfect, I'm clearly not either. So here's mine (on a pretty good day I have to admit)
And here is me with half my face done;
you can clearly see the difference and what a great match the shade is to my skin.
Here it is with my finished face;
Looking lovely! (I kid)
And lastly (and arguably most importantly) Here it is after more than 12 hours wear;
Yes, Safe to say it last the whole day!
On to the nitty gritty;
Let's talk about the formula for a second. because I find it really strange! I hated it at first and now I love it. It's obviously thick but it's not particularly creamy. It feels powdery, and it sets quickly. It definitely needs some primer or moisturiser, I can't imagine applying this without it!
And to the basics!
the lasting power
the packaging (so much easier and more hygienic than the normal Double Wear)
Yes, there's really isn't anything else I dislike about this product but the transfer of this has to be talked about. It transfers to everything! My coat collar is covered in it and if I touch my face throughout the day it's all over them and unless I have wet wipes/tissues in my bag I have a major issue! This issue has not been resolved with any kind of setting powder (possibly makes it worse) and I don't want to use setting spray with such a heavy coverage foundation. But the likes completely out way the dislikes but it's something I haven't spotted anyone mentioning so I'm secretly hoping someone might comment below with a tip to stop it...
Lastly, I have found so many people say how un-natural this product looks however I have not felt that way about it. It doesn't not look in anyway "natural" but not many foundations do, and it certainly does not make me feel like I'm wearing a mask as suggested by many who've tried it.
If you have any problems with your skin I'd definitely recommend giving it a go, or even if you just enjoy the full coverage look!
I'd love to hear your thoughts below!
