Reading Wrap Up August 2016!

Hi lovelies,

Today I would like to share with you what I read in the month of August! I know this is mega late, but I didn't realise it hadn't posted until now (bad blogger).

I had a *much* better reading month in August, I read plenty and I enjoyed it all! I decided to really mix it up, I read lots of different genres and just read what I wanted and it was fun!

That said I barely read anything the last week or so, as I got caught up in watching Grey's Anatomy again from the beginning but that's OK too! (this carried well into September as my September reading wrap up will attest...)

This month I read...

Trinkets, Treasures and Other Bloody Magic (The Dowser #1) by Meghan Ciana Doidge** - 3.5/5 - urban fantasy
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by Jack Thorne - 2/5 - play/fantasy
Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff - 5/5 - YA science fiction
Nearly Gone (Nearly Gone #1) by Elle Cosimano - 4.5/5 - YA (with some magical realism(?))
Ms. Marvel Volume 2: Generation Why by G Willow Wilson - 4/5 - superhero YA comicbook
The Sunshine and Biscotti Club by Jenny Oliver - 3.75/5 - contemporary/romance
Lumberjanes Volume 4: Out of Time by Shannon Watters - 4/5 -  magical realism YA comicbook
Descender Volume 2: Machine Moon by Jeff Lemire - 4/5 - science fiction comicbook
Simply Irresistible (Lucky Harbor #1) by Jill Shalvis - 3.75/5 - romance
Plutona by Jeff Lemire - 4/5 - superhero/science fiction YA comicbook

Lock In by John Scalzi* - 5/5 - science fiction

My favourite read this month was...

I read a lot of really good stuff in August, obviously if I'm going by star rating I'd say Illuminae, I absolutely loved this unique format and it reminded me a lot of Star Trek.

My least favourite read this month was...

It feels so, so weird to say but Harry Potter? Wow, never thought I'd say that. The thing is though, I didn't hate it, I actually did enjoy it, because I was back with my peeps. But let's be honest, this was not the world (or the people) we know and love. And yes, I know it's a play, and YES I believe it will be awesome to see if you are one of the extra special, precious, rich people that live in London or can travel to London to see it (no, I am NOT jealous, you are).

My most surprisingly good/bad read this month was...

So I was already super suspicious of Harry Potter, in fact I didn't even pre-order it. So I wasn't really surprised when I was disappointed, if you get what I mean?

However, I was super surprised by a few reads. I didn't expect to love Plutona as much as I did (especially with the mixed reviews). And there was no way I expected to enjoy a romance book as much as I did (Simply Irresistible). Yes I *only* gave it 3.75, but for me and for a romance book that is a high rating my friend.

Also, was super happy to enjoy Ms Marvel Volume 2, after I was left slightly disappointed by volume 1, I know totally get where everyone is coming from and I now want ALL DA VOLUMEZ PLZ.

Last but not least, Nearly Gone took me by surprise as well, while the writing style was nothing new the mystery/supernatural elements were everything I didn't know I needed in YA.

My re-reads this month were...

Lock In by John Scalzi, I have re-read (or rather re-listened) to this book countless times and my rating never changes. I adore Wil Wheaton narration, and his narration is such a good combination with John Scalzi's writing style.

So there you have it, a very successful August to make September look even more weak in comparison.
